Anthropic Files for IPO Amid Warnings About AI Threats

Anthropic, the developer of the Claude language model, has filed for an initial public offering (IPO) with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Trading will take place on the Nasdaq stock exchange under the ticker symbol ANT.

According to preliminary expert estimates, the company's market capitalization could reach $2 trillion. Despite high investor expectations, financial performance shows significant losses during its active growth phase.

Financial Results and Operational Performance

  • Revenue in the first half of 2026 reached $16.3 billion, reflecting a 1,300% year-over-year growth.
  • Net loss for the period was $80.7 billion, while it stood at $42 billion for all of 2025.
  • In September, over 90% of the code in the corporate repository was written by the AI model Claude.

A significant portion of the losses is related to the revaluation of convertible loans and derivatives, so they do not solely reflect infrastructure and server costs. The company retains its status as a public benefit organization, and most board members are elected by the independent Long-Term Benefit Trust.

Risks of Artificial Intelligence Technology Development

The prospectus explicitly highlights catastrophic or existential threats to humanity posed by advanced AI. Anthropic models are already capable of recursive learning, enabling them to independently accelerate research and development processes for new algorithms.
