X is introducing cryptocurrency trading via external partners
Social network X plans to add the ability to trade cryptocurrency directly in the news feed. The initiative comes from the former head of the product direction, Nikita Bier.
In the US and Canada, the Cashtags function is already operational, which turns mentions of assets like $SOL or $ETH into clickable tickers with real-time charts.
The platform will not act as a broker. When clicking the button, the user is redirected to a third-party partner who executes trades, verifies identity, and bears regulatory responsibility.
Such integration is already available in Canada through the Wealthsimple service. The mechanism allows for quick response to market impulses arising from coin discussions in posts.
- Trading is carried out through external partners
- X does not hold funds and is not an exchange
- The feature simplifies access to assets with one click
