Buterin Presents Ethereum Development Plan Through 2030

Vitalik Buterin's Ethereum Roadmap to 2030

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin published a manifesto titled "The Cryptographic World Computer," marking the network's first major roadmap since 2022. The author argues that by 2030, Ethereum will cease to be merely a blockchain in the Bitcoin sense and evolve into a fundamentally different system.

Buterin compares the scale of planned changes to the two-year transition from mining to staking. Zero-knowledge proofs are planned to be integrated directly into the network's base layer rather than left to third-party solutions.

According to the concept, the new architecture will ensure:

  • privacy at all levels: hiding transactions and account data using ZK-SNARKs
  • protection against information collection by node operators themselves
  • resistance to quantum computer attacks
  • integration of artificial intelligence and a balance between computational scale and universality

The market is reacting skeptically to the manifesto. ETH price fell from its 2025 peak of ~$4,950 to ~$1,500 in June, but is now trading around $2,700. Historically, loud claims in the crypto space often diverge from the actual timelines for their implementation.
