SpaceX to Become Largest Starlink Mobile Operator

SpaceX to Create Largest Telecom Operator Starlink Mobile

SpaceX has acquired a package of low-frequency radio spectrum licenses, enabling Starlink Mobile to become the largest telecommunications operator in the US and worldwide.

The new spectral range poses direct competition to traditional industry giants such as T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon.

The package includes up to 14 MHz of paired spectrum in the 800 MHz band. This signal can penetrate walls and buildings, ensuring stable connectivity indoors.

Previously, SpaceX had already purchased spectrum in the 2 GHz band from EchoStar to enable satellites to connect directly with standard smartphones.

Following approval by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the company plans to launch a hybrid system. It will combine a satellite constellation that connects directly to phones with a terrestrial mobile network.

The regulator has already approved the deployment of 15,000 second-generation Starlink Mobile satellites. Their throughput will exceed that of current models by more than 100 times.

The project's goal is to create a unified network providing reliable connectivity indoors, outdoors, in areas without coverage, and everywhere in between.
