Pentagon creates secret department for technological sabotage

The Pentagon secretly created the Technology Support Office to sabotage foreign technologies threatening US military superiority.

According to Politico, the creation of the new unit was reported by 12 current and former national security officials. It has not been publicly announced.

The department was formed on the basis of two classified intelligence programs operating in the field of technological sabotage since 2023. The staff includes engineers, special forces, and intelligence officers.

Key tasks of the new unit:

  • development of hacking tools
  • operations to introduce defective components into enemy weapons
  • disruption of supply chains and disinformation

The office has its own budget and procurement authority to quickly engage private companies. A former intelligence officer estimated the cost of secret contracts at more than $1.5 billion.

Special Operations Command and Cyber Command opposed the creation of the unit due to fears of budget cuts. Critics point out the lack of oversight and the risk of exacerbating relations with China.

The Pentagon denies the existence of the office, calling the sources misinformed or deliberately lying.
