Agility Robotics' Digit 5 Robot Ready for Unfenced Work
Agility Robotics has introduced the new humanoid robot Digit 5, designed for warehouse and production line operations. The device can operate up to 20 hours a day without the need for protective fencing.
Safety is ensured by a comprehensive suite of sensors and artificial intelligence algorithms. When a person approaches, the robot automatically adjusts its trajectory, stops, or squats down, warning of its actions with light and sound signals.
The new model features improved technical specifications compared to the previous generation:
- Load capacity increased to 22.7 kg, exceeding Digit 4's performance by 40%
- Item pickup height reached 2.2 meters, compared to 1.7 meters for the predecessor
- Autonomous operation time is 90 minutes with a charging time of just 9 minutes
- Grippers adapt to various tasks thanks to a modular design
According to documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Amazon purchased five units of Digit 5 for $1.05 million. The cost per robot was approximately $210,000.
The company's order backlog exceeded $300 million. One client signed a contract for the supply of 1,000 robots over three years, though their name remains undisclosed.
The developer's financial situation remains challenging: Agility Robotics reported an operating loss of $140.2 million. To stabilize the situation, the company plans to go public via a SPAC merger valued at $2.5 billion.
