Russia May Impose Fees for International Traffic in 5G Networks
The Ministry of Digital Development, Transport and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation has resumed discussions on introducing fees for using international internet traffic. According to Kommersant, the initiative proposes charging users whose consumption exceeds established limits.
Earlier media reports indicated the potential cost for exceeding these limits: the tariff could have been set at 150 rubles per additional gigabyte of traffic outside the country.
The proposed measure concerns international traffic volumes exceeding 50 GB when using fifth-generation (5G) networks. However, implementing this technical capability is currently impossible as the main user data flow still passes through fourth-generation LTE networks.
