$12,000 Mini-Factory with Artificial Intelligence Control
MicroFactory has announced desktop robotic cells for small-batch production with built-in AI integration using Anthropic and OpenAI models.
The neural network handles the selection of grippers and tooling, writes and tests programs using computer vision, and directly controls the robot. The system collects data to train smaller local models.
The robot can perform operations such as sorting, connector insertion, part picking from containers, painting, sanding, and working with wires and zip ties. Complex movements are recorded via a teleoperation kit.
Cost depends on system configuration
- Single version with one arm costs $11,950
- Double version with two arms costs $21,900
- Array 8 version with eight arms costs $94,900
Repeatability is 0.02 mm, with a payload capacity of up to 3 kg. Buyers pay for Anthropic and OpenAI tokens during the setup phase.
After setup, the robot switches to local models, with licenses included in the price for five years. Data is stored on Cloudflare, training runs on Modal, and all processes are located in the US.
Fully local installation is only available by special arrangement. Developers recommend starting with simple tasks, as reasoning-intensive tasks may execute slowly.
