Fields Medalist: OpenAI Destroyed My Field of Research

Hugo Duminil-Copin, the 2022 Fields Medalist mathematician, shared his emotional reaction to the release of a new OpenAI model. Upon seeing algorithms solve problems in his field, he cried so hard that he woke up his daughter.

Among the successfully solved problems were at least 16 that the specialist himself had worked on. This indicates that the difficulty level is comparable to current research and demonstrates the high complexity of these achievements.

During a video conference, the scientist stated that the company had destroyed his field of research. He showed a slide depicting a rabbit crushed by trucks, commenting that this was an attempt to demonstrate their power.
