Tesla leases private electric cars as robotaxis

Tesla is considering integrating private electric vehicles into its robotaxi network, turning them into a source of passive income for owners.

Elon Musk plans to utilize not only the specialized Cybercab but also standard Tesla models owned by private individuals. The working scheme is simple: while the car is idle, it connects to the autonomous ride-hailing service.

Autonomous vehicles independently handle trips with passengers, while the owner receives income minus the platform's commission. This allows monetizing the downtime of a personal electric vehicle without driver involvement.

The full launch of the service is planned for the end of 2027. The initiative aims to create a unified ecosystem of driverless taxis with a wide fleet of vehicles.
