Rigging and Animation Update in Tripo Studio

Tripo Studio has updated its automatic rigging and animation features for 3D characters. Static models can now be rigged with a skeleton, and animations can be exported based on text descriptions.

New Features

  • Full body rigging with hand bone support
  • Five presets: UE5 Mannequin, Mixamo, VRM 1.0, Unity Humanoid, ActorCore
  • Text to Motion: Generate animations from 1 to 10 seconds
  • Multi-stage Motion: Sequences of five movement segments

The update reduces manual preparation between character generation and testing in game engines. Users select the desired skeleton in advance, simplifying bone mapping. However, "game-ready" status does not guarantee freedom from deformation issues.

Vertex weight correction requires Blender or Maya. The humanoid rig limit is 100,000 triangles, and the source pose must be T-pose or A-pose.

Cost in Service Credits

  1. Rigging – 20 credits
  2. Generating one animation – 20 credits
  3. Library movements – free

Expert opinion highlights the controversy of using A-pose as an industry standard. It is also noted that startups are better off developing plugins for professional software like Premiere, After Effects, Blender, Maya, and Nuke rather than building their own tools from scratch.
