Character.AI Files for Bankruptcy
Character.AI filed for bankruptcy due to high AI costs. Disney offered $20 million for assets, but the sale of the entire company is at risk of closure.
Financial indicators show a serious imbalance: in January-August 2026, computing costs amounted to $56.1 million, while revenue in August was only $5.3 million.
Operating expenses reached $13.3 million, equivalent to approximately $2.50 in expenses for every dollar of revenue. Despite attempts to optimize costs, the company lost about $8-9 million monthly.
Disney offered $20 million for a license to part of the technologies and assets, but not for the purchase of the entire company. The service continues to operate until the deal is completed.
The sale should be completed by the end of November or early December. In the absence of a buyer willing to continue developing the platform, the service will be shut down.
