Barcode Scanners: A New Threat to Warehouse Systems

Barcode Scanner Vulnerabilities Threaten Warehouse Security

Experts from Kaspersky presented a study on wireless barcode scanner vulnerabilities at the Security Analyst Summit 2026.

Researchers analyzed the radio frequency communication protocol between devices and base stations, identifying the possibility of command injection.

The attack allows remote code execution on Windows and Linux without user interaction. An attacker only needs to be within range of the radio signal to gain access to the system.

This attack vector enables penetration into the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and control over the logistics center's network.

Attackers can alter product data, reroute packages, halt conveyor belts, and steal customer personal data.

The vulnerabilities affect equipment from major global manufacturers. To protect against these threats, it is recommended to isolate warehouse networks, disable unused Bluetooth, and implement strict device authentication.
