Sweden Bans Civil Servants from Using ChatGPT and Claude

The Swedish Government Offices have banned employees from using ChatGPT and Claude services on work computers since October 26. Instead, the corporate tool Microsoft Copilot has been implemented.

The decision to block these tools was made for information security reasons. Using third-party AI services without an official agreement can create threats to data protection.

Sweden is not the first country to restrict the use of open neural networks in government structures. Similar measures have already been adopted or are being prepared in several agencies:

  1. The Tax Agency and the National Prison and Probation Service have already introduced bans
  2. The Enforcement Service is preparing a similar decision
  3. The Transport Administration identified about a dozen illegally used AI services

An internal audit by the Transport Administration showed that employees were transferring sensitive data to open services and using AI responses in their work. This led to the need for strict control over digital tools.

Experts note that replacing one American AI with another under a corporate contract changes only the legal status of technology use, but not the essence of its application in the public sector.
