North Korean Hackers Pose as Remote Developers

Dutch blogger Deeveeaar published video recordings exposing the identity of North Korean IT scammers posing as remote developers.

The researcher hacked the suspect's computer, tracked him via LinkedIn, and accessed his webcam. Instead of a typical scammer, the footage showed a group of young men in North Korean military uniforms.

The video was filmed in a military dormitory: staff clean their boots, joke around, and write code. To conceal their location, they use VPNs, and to create fake resumes, they employ artificial intelligence.

  • Work is conducted from a military dormitory in North Korea
  • VPNs are used to mask geographical location
  • Code is written in English and Russian
  • AI is used to generate fake personal data

Collected materials are sent to employers in the US and Europe to secure remote positions. This case highlights the scale of state involvement in cybercrime.
