Mobile Network Quality in Russia May Deteriorate by 2028

Mobile network quality in Russia may deteriorate by 2028 due to equipment localization issues. Domestic manufacturers are unable to produce enough base stations to replace foreign analogs.

Starting in 2028, operators will be permitted to use only domestic equipment. Currently, over one million foreign base stations operate in the country, while Russian factories produce only a few thousand units annually.

Telecom operators have asked the Ministry of Digital Development to relax equipment replacement requirements. They fear they will not be able to meet the localization plan on schedule.

Production delays could negatively impact network development and service quality for users.
