Ministry of Digital Development Discusses Paid Gigabytes in International Networks

Introducing charges for international internet in 5G networks

The Ministry of Digital Development is considering the introduction of paid traffic tariffs in international networks. Initially, it was proposed to charge for each gigabyte, which caused a wave of user dissatisfaction.

Following public resonance, the agency expanded the free allowance to 50 GB. Paid tariffs will apply only to traffic in fifth-generation (5G) networks.

There is a technical issue: current international traffic passes through LTE networks. To implement a meter and control data consumption, the necessary infrastructure is currently lacking.
