BitMine to Halt ETH Purchases Upon Reaching 5% Supply
BitMine Chairman Tom Lee announced plans to stop buying Ethereum (ETH) after the company reaches a 5% share of the total cryptocurrency supply.
Currently, corporate treasury BitMine, the world's largest Ethereum accumulator, holds 6,016,414 ETH. This accounts for approximately 4.9% of all coins, and about 100,000 tokens are needed to reach the target figure.
The company has been acquiring the asset weekly since June 2025. At current accumulation rates, reaching the goal will take six to seven weeks, significantly faster than initial projections of five years.
- Over 5 million ETH held by the company are staked
- Staking yield is estimated at $363 million per year
- Sale of staking rewards may be possible to keep the share below 5%
According to trackers, BitMine has an unrealized loss on Ethereum of approximately $4.5 billion. On the day of the chairman's statement, the price of ETH fell by 5.5%, dropping to around $2,570.
