Ledger Atom: Protected Smartphone for Cryptocurrencies at $899

Ledger has unveiled the Atom device — a crypto wallet in the form of an Android smartphone. The hardware is designed for maximum protection of digital assets and utilizes a hybrid architecture.

The device features two operating systems: standard Android for everyday tasks and an isolated Ledger OS running on a separate secure chip. All transactions are verified and signed in a secure mode, preventing unauthorized access to private keys.

Key security features include:

  • Physical switch to completely disable cameras and microphone
  • Encrypted messaging between Atom devices
  • Use of post-quantum cryptography
  • Spending limits for AI agents (e.g., up to $100 without physical confirmation)

The tamper-detection system operates independently from a separate battery even when the device is turned off. This solution addresses incidents involving counterfeit products: wallets with embedded implants stealing seed phrases were sold through resellers. These counterfeits are linked to losses exceeding $86 million.

The phone does not support voice calls: eSIM is used exclusively for data transmission. Pre-orders require a $100 deposit, the starting price is $849, and mass deliveries are scheduled for summer 2027 after certification is completed.
