US Army Creates Autonomous AI Viruses ECHOTRIBBLE

  • Degrading target functionality or deleting data
  • Self-destructing after mission completion, leaving no trace
  • Operating with minimal human oversight
  • Using predefined triggers to identify targets

According to The Intercept, the program is in the prototyping phase. Out of 65 contractor proposals, five finalists were selected to receive development contracts.

Experts express concern over the risks of uncontrollable system behavior. Hiram Anderson, CEO of Abundant, highlighted the potential for collateral damage to unintended targets, such as civilian infrastructure.

The US Army Cyber Command is developing the ECHOTRIBBLE program using autonomous AI agents. These systems are designed to independently search for and neutralize targets within the adversary's digital infrastructure.
