Trump Retains Veto Power Amid Democratic Control of Congress
Despite the Democrats' victory in Congress, Donald Trump retains his presidential powers and veto authority. This allows him to block legislation from the new chamber.
Overriding a veto requires a two-thirds majority, which the Democrats do not have.
The Democrats plan to present their action program within the first 100 hours of the new Congress on January 3, 2027. However, their legislative initiatives may be blocked by the president.
Veto power does not apply to congressional investigations. Democrats will be able to request documents and summon witnesses.
Special attention will be paid to verifying the business deals of the Trump family and their cryptocurrency projects. The president has already hinted at his readiness to use the veto by posting a photo of a red hat with the word "VETO".
