Russia to Ban P2P Cryptocurrency Sales Starting 2027
New rules for the circulation of cryptocurrencies will come into force in Russia on July 1, 2027. Legislators plan to completely ban direct P2P sales of digital assets between individuals.
Now transactions can only be conducted through authorized intermediaries included in a special registry of the Bank of Russia. At the same time, cryptocurrency itself is not banned—the tightening applies only to the procedures for its purchase and sale.
Ban on transfers to cold wallets
- Direct P2P deals will be unavailable to citizens
- Transactions are allowed only through agents from the CBR registry
- Transferring currency to personal cold wallets will be prohibited
