Protected Wink Smartphone with Data Self-Destruction Feature
Brax Technologies has opened pre-orders for the compact Wink smartphone with a physical QWERTY keyboard. The device is built around principles of protection against surveillance.
The BraxOS operating system is based on open-source Android. The system completely lacks Google services, advertising, and data trackers.
A physical privacy switch is located on the top edge of the case. The user can independently choose which components to disable: mobile network, microphones, camera, geolocation, or sensors.
The smartphone can automatically erase data according to set security rules:
- when a special password is entered in case of coercion
- after several failed screen unlock attempts
- if the device has been off for a long time
- with every system reboot
Internet connection or a user account is not required for the self-erasing function to work.
During initial setup, one of two device operation modes is selected.
- Omni — full Android without Google services integration
- Zero — basic functions: calls, messages, encrypted messenger, and navigation
The mode can only be changed by performing a full factory reset.
Technical specifications include a 4-inch OLED screen and MediaTek MT8875 processor.
- RAM volume is 8 GB with 128 GB of internal storage
- Supports microSD cards up to 1 TB
- Main camera resolution is 50 MP; there is no front camera
The price of the smartphone at the pre-order stage has been reduced to $449 instead of the recommended $699.
The first batches of devices will start shipping to buyers only in July 2027.
