Polygon Proposes Hard Fork to Return Stolen Funds

Polygon Hard Fork: Plan to Return Stolen Funds

The Polygon network is considering a hard fork to return funds stolen in recent cyberattacks on major platforms.

Following the Binance and Polymarket hacks, developers blocked five attacker wallets. These addresses hold approximately 70.5 million POL tokens, equivalent to roughly $6.5 million USD.

The main issue is that current blocking methods do not allow for the return of assets to affected companies. Validators can prevent new transactions from hacker addresses, but forcibly retrieving already stolen funds this way is impossible.

The proposed solution involves conducting a network hard fork. This technical measure will allow zeroing out the balances of blocked wallets and transferring funds back to victims without needing consent from the owners of the stolen assets.

The initiative has been officially presented to the community for discussion and voting.
