Musk wants to merge Tesla and SpaceX before Trump's term
Elon Musk intends to merge Tesla and SpaceX into a single corporation valued at approximately $3.7 trillion. The deal could become the largest in human history.
Merger of Two Companies
According to Bloomberg, the announcement of the deal is planned for the first half of 2027. This will allow closing the transaction before the end of Donald Trump's presidential term in January 2029.
Motivation for the Merger
The main reason for the merger lies in the corporate governance structure. At SpaceX, Musk holds about 48% of shares but more than 80% of voting rights, whereas his stake in Tesla is only around 20%. Since 2024, he has stated that conditions for developing AI and robots are uncomfortable without a controlling voting block.
Technological synergy also plays an important role. The companies are jointly building a Terafab plant in Texas to produce AI chips. Tesla's autonomous vehicles and robots will be able to utilize SpaceX's computing power.
Political Risks
The timing of the deal is dictated by the US political calendar. Midterm elections will take place on November 3, after which Democrats may control one of the chambers of Congress. This poses a risk of scrutiny regarding Musk's government contracts.
Approval of the deal requires support from more than half of all Tesla shares. The entrepreneur himself acknowledges this factor as a significant barrier.
