Ledger reveals wallet hack details: spy modules and unknown damages
Ledger has published new details regarding the investigation into the hack of its hardware wallets, though the exact extent of the damage remains unknown. According to the manufacturer, the number of affected users and the total amount of stolen funds have not yet been determined.
The attack mechanism involves a spy module that reads the 24 words of the seed phrase from the device screen during initial setup. The collected data is transmitted to attackers via a built-in eSIM using an LTE connection.
Investigation Progress and Confirmed Incidents
At present, the company confirms cases of fund loss only through the seller CryptoBilis. This seller has halted the sale of Ledger devices pending an internal investigation.
Despite reports of spy devices found in wallets sold through other stores and regions, Ledger has not yet been able to confirm these facts. Verification of other reports is ongoing, and final conclusions will be drawn later.
