GPT-6 Astra Cleared the Starting Zone of WoW Blindfolded

GPT-6 Astra Cleared World of Warcraft Without Visual Input

The developer of the open-source agent-wow client demonstrated a successful run through the Orc starting zone in World of Warcraft using the GPT-6 Astra model. The agent completed the task in 40 minutes without a single character death.

The key feature of the experiment is that the model received no visual input. It relied exclusively on analyzing server network traffic, without seeing gameplay screenshots.

To complete quests from Trial Grounds to Sen'jin Village, the agent independently created the necessary tools:

  • a module for intercepting about 28 types of server messages and a Python script to build a world map
  • quest data extracted directly from the server's SQL files
  • pathfinding in C++ using AzerothCore navigation grids

The AI agent executed quest chains sequentially, sold unwanted junk, equipped the best armor, and took both final cave quests simultaneously. During gameplay, it discovered map bugs and was able to walk through walls.

Testing was conducted on a local AzerothCore server running WoW version 3.3.5a. Previously, the Astra model completed the game Portal in 24 hours, but there it used visual data from screenshots.

The project author plans to populate an entire server with AI agents and test their ability to take down Icecrown Citadel on heroic difficulty.
