Lemmo 3: Cargo E-Bike with Safe Semi-Solid-State Battery
German manufacturer Lemmo has unveiled its first cargo e-bike, the Lemmo 3, equipped with a semi-solid-state battery. This is one of the first such solutions in the world.
Safety
The battery uses a gel-like electrolyte, which significantly reduces the risk of thermal runaway. This design makes charging at home or in the office less hazardous compared to traditional lithium-ion alternatives.
The electrolyte maintains stability even if the battery suffers mechanical damage in an accident, enhancing overall vehicle safety.
Technical Specifications
- The battery capacity is 960 Wh, providing a range of up to 180 km.
- Compared to standard batteries of the same capacity, this new development is 20% smaller and lighter, with a service life extended by 30%.
- The battery weighs 5 kg; it is removable and can be used as a power bank with a 1000 W outlet and a 66 W USB-C port.
- The total weight of the bike is 39 kg, featuring suspension on both wheels and a MIK HD standard rack.
An external inverter costing €169 is required to connect household appliances.
Cost and Availability
The recommended retail price for the Lemmo 3 is €3,390, but early bird pre-orders are available for €1,890. The Kickstarter campaign is scheduled for October, with deliveries expected by April 2027.
The manufacturer positions the model as an 'electric SUV,' but independent tests have not yet been conducted, as the first units will only be available in six months.
