The World's First Pistol Created by Artificial Intelligence

Kody Wilson, creator of the world's first 3D-printed pistol, presented the WASP weapon, which he called the first "vibe-coding gun" in history created by artificial intelligence.

The single-shot .22 caliber pistol was developed using the GatGPT model. This neural network is trained on DEFCAD — the largest database of files for 3D printing weapons and has no safety filters.

The design process took place entirely in a chat: the user requested a modification of an existing model, after which the AI proposed a plan consisting of six changes and independently verified each part of the design.

Creating the prototype took about six hours on a Bambu Lab printer made of ordinary plastic. The design used only two metal parts: the barrel and the firing pin. There is no serial number on the weapon.

  • Print time is about six hours
  • Design includes a plastic body with a metal barrel and firing pin
  • No serial number

During the demonstration of functionality, the pistol misfired on the first shot and successfully fired two more out of three shots. Experts noted the uncomfortable "bubbly" grip, non-functional sight, and unfinished trigger guard.

The main danger lies not in the quality of the current product, but in the accessibility of the technology. Previously, creating weapons required specific skills; now, just a few text prompts are enough.

New designs generated by AI are absent from databases used by systems blocking weapon printing on 3D printers. This allows any printer owner to create new models of firearms every few hours.
