FBI Dismantles Crypto Scam Network Targeting Russian Speakers

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has dismantled a major fraudulent network targeting Russian-speaking citizens in America. The agency shut down 112 servers and seized 241 domains used to organize a cryptocurrency investment scam.

Fraudsters sought victims through social media posts. Fake consultants helped people register on counterfeit crypto platforms and transfer funds there. When users attempted to withdraw money, access was blocked or payment for non-existent fees was demanded.

The investigation lasted three years. Prosecutors closed about 400 domains, but the perpetrators constantly created new websites. The infrastructure was based on servers in Ukraine and Eastern European countries.

Damages are estimated at tens of millions of dollars. Authorities seized approximately $300,000 and are working to return the remaining funds to victimized citizens.
