Democrats draft new cryptocurrency law in the U.S
Democrats are drafting an alternative cryptocurrency regulation bill for the U.S., intended to replace the previously passed CLARITY Act. The document will be based on Maxine Waters' 2025 amendments and agreements with Republicans.
Key directions of the new regulation
- Expanding the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) authority over the crypto market while simultaneously limiting the role of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
- Introducing additional restrictions on the cryptocurrency activities of President Donald Trump and other federal officials.
The initiative is aimed at the next Congress, whose work begins on January 3, 2027. At present, the document is in the preliminary discussion stage.
The Republican Party has already characterized the proposed measures as a political move aimed at strengthening Democrats' positions rather than bringing real changes to legislation.
