Anthropic releases Claude Haiku 5.5 with lower pricing and adaptive

Anthropic has introduced Claude Haiku 5.5, the fastest and most cost-effective version of the family at standard speed. The new architecture is designed for mass tasks: summarization, classification, data extraction, routing, customer support, voice agents, browser control, and acting as a sub-agent for larger models.

Pricing now depends on prompt length. For requests up to 100K tokens, the price is $0.10 per input and $0.50 per output per million tokens. For longer contexts exceeding 100K tokens, the cost increases to $0.50 and $2.50 respectively.

Compared to the previous Haiku 4.5 version, short requests are 90% cheaper, and long ones are 50% cheaper. Accounting for the tokenizer change and real task distribution, Anthropic estimates an average cost reduction of approximately 75%.

The model supports a context window of up to 1 million tokens and generates outputs up to 128K. The new tokenizer increases text length by approximately 30% compared to Haiku 4.5 when processing the same amount of information.

Claude Haiku 5.5 was the first to receive adaptive thinking functionality with adjustable effort levels. Users can balance response quality, processing speed, and computational costs based on specific project needs.

Tests show a significant performance leap in agentic tasks compared to its predecessor:

• Terminal-Bench 4.0: 39.2% vs 0%
• GDPval-AA v2.1: 1620 vs 735
• FrontierCode 1.1: 46.4%

Despite improvements, Sonnet 5.5 remains significantly stronger in complex agentic scenarios. Haiku 5.5 is primarily intended for high volumes of fast, well-defined operations where cost-efficiency is key.

The model is available via API (ID: claude-haiku-5-5), in Claude services, AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry. Simultaneously, Anthropic reduced the cache read price for Sonnet 5.5 from $0.20 to $0.10 per million tokens, reducing the cost of typical agentic work by approximately 20%.
