Xbox loses access to services due to DNS blocking
Russian ISPs have begun mass blocking DNS servers used to access Xbox services. This decision has put the console's functionality in the country at risk.
Workaround Scheme
Previously, console owners could manually configure special DNS addresses in the device settings. This method allowed them to connect to Microsoft servers that did not function directly within the Russian Federation. Some users also gained access to foreign neural networks and other services using a similar approach.
Reasons for Loss of Access
Users are reporting widespread failures in these workarounds. The blocks affect several projects that provided alternative DNS addresses. The main issue is linked to the blocking of port 53, through which the console typically sends queries to domain name system servers.
Specifics of the Failure
- The block targets DNS requests specifically, not general internet traffic.
- The problem does not lie with a malfunction of the gaming console itself.
- Internet connectivity may remain stable, but access to the required servers is unavailable.
