U.S. Treasury Yields Hit 24-Year High
Yields on long-term U.S. government bonds have reached a 24-year high, reflecting intensifying inflation expectations following the ISM report.
Market
- 10-year notes rose to 5.35%
- 30-year notes climbed to approximately 5.7%
Such yield levels have not been recorded since 2002. A new impetus for the bond market came from the recent Institute for Supply Management (ISM) report on the U.S. services sector: the price index surged to 74 points, marking a peak since July 2022.
For risk assets, rising Treasury yields are traditionally a negative factor. Government bonds become more attractive to investors, loans become more expensive, and demand for risky assets declines.
