Updated Linux Course and Free DevOps Book for Beginners

The free course on learning and administering the Linux operating system has been updated on the Stepik platform. In May 2025, the material was significantly expanded compared to the previous version.

The educational program now includes 45 lessons, 22 hours of video content, and 157 test questions. The updated format allows for comprehensive study over several weeks rather than a single day.

The material is intended exclusively for beginners. Experienced IT professionals will not find new data or advanced administration techniques in this course.

Participants in the program will master the following key skills:

  • Analysis of features across various Linux-based distributions
  • Installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of the operating system
  • Confident use of the terminal command line
  • Writing automated scripts in Bash
  • Performing hardening to strengthen system security

An additional resource for study is a practical guide to Linux based on the Debian distribution. The material is available for free and is aimed at users who have previously worked only with Windows.

Readers will go through the journey from the first SSH connection to a server to deploying a website in Docker containers with CI/CD configured. The end-to-end project involves creating a site using the nginx, PHP-FPM, and WordPress stack.

First, the site is built manually, then packaged into containers, and finally automated through continuous integration and delivery processes.
