Tesla Begins Serial Production of the Semi Electric Truck

Tesla began mass production of the Semi electric truck at a new facility in Nevada, located near Gigafactory. The project, announced by Elon Musk in 2017, has finally moved from prototype stage to serial production.

The new plant is designed to produce up to 50,000 trucks annually. The company employs vertical integration: stamping, seat manufacturing, battery production, drive axles, high-voltage wiring, and cooling modules are all carried out on-site.

Elon Musk noted that organizing the production process proved more complex than designing the vehicle itself. This underscores the scale of engineering challenges faced by the Tesla team in creating heavy commercial vehicles.

The vehicle is available in two versions with ranges of 325 and 500 miles (approximately 520 and 800 km). Both models feature a three-motor setup with a power output of 800 kW.

Charging via the Megacharger network allows replenishing up to 60% of the range in just 30 minutes. Such rapid energy recovery is critical for logistics companies.

Early buyers already include PepsiCo, DHL, and US Foods. Swedish company Einride placed a record order for 500 trucks, marking the largest deal to date.

Rising prices of traditional fuels are driving corporations to switch to electric transport. The introduction of the Semi addresses market demand for reducing operational costs in freight transportation.
