Starknet May Move to L1 Due to Quantum Computer Threats
Starknet co-founder Eli Ben-Sasson warned of risks to cryptocurrencies due to the development of quantum computers and artificial intelligence.
Security threats may arise sooner than expected
Currently, the Starknet network operates as a second-layer (L2) solution and relies on Ethereum blockchain security. Moving to its own L1 layer will allow the project to independently implement protection updates without waiting for changes in the main network.
Timeline for protection against quantum threats
According to experts:
- Starknet could become resistant to quantum attacks by 2027
- Ethereum plans to achieve full L1 quantum security by the end of 2029
- Exact timelines for Bitcoin's implementation of quantum protection have not yet been determined
