Solana launches Alpenglow update to accelerate the network
The Solana network has undergone a major consensus update called Alpenglow, marking the largest upgrade in the blockchain's history. The activation is scheduled for epoch 1064 and is expected to occur around 16:20 Moscow time.
The key change is a drastic reduction in transaction finality time. Confirmations now take approximately 150 milliseconds, which is about 85 times faster than the previous benchmark of 12.8 seconds.
Implications for Users
- Regular users and stakers do not need to take any action.
- Wallets will continue to operate in their usual mode without changes.
- During the consensus switch, there may be a brief pause in transaction processing lasting a few seconds.
