SEC Unveils New Crypto Asset Custody Rules
On October 1, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) unveiled a proposal for new rules establishing clear regulatory requirements for the custody of crypto assets by investment advisers and funds.
The initiative aims to close an existing regulatory gap. In certain cases, the document allows state-chartered trust companies to act as custodians.
According to SEC Chairman Paul Atkins, the proposed measures aim to create a more transparent and secure environment for institutional investors dealing with digital assets.
