Pentagon Establishes Autonomous Warfare Command

U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced the creation of the Autonomous Warfare Command. The new structure will integrate drone and artificial intelligence development across all branches of the armed forces.

The main goal of the reform is to integrate robotic systems into a unified combat network. Autonomous complexes are expected to operate jointly with artillery and infantry, rather than functioning independently.

Full operational capability for the command is planned by October 2027. Hegseth described these changes as the fastest peacetime transformation in modern military history.

Previously, AI integration into decision-making was already outlined in the 2023–2026 strategy. Now, combat robots will have their own headquarters with a dedicated budget and command structure.
