OpenAI Updates Pro Subscription: New Terms and Prices

OpenAI will once again open Pro subscriptions for $200 to new users tomorrow.

The new tariff plan involves reducing the volume of computations in API spending equivalents by approximately half compared to the old version. At the same time, the formal subscription cost remains unchanged at $200.

The company claims that the actual volume of work performed will not decrease, but will grow over time. This is achieved by reducing the cost of the models themselves and changing the mechanism for using limits.

Instead of the old five-hour limit, a weekly budget now applies, which can be spent flexibly. At the same time, OpenAI has reduced the API cost of the new GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna models by approximately half relative to the previous generation.

  1. GPT-5.6 Sol: $4 input / $20 output; GPT-6 Sol: $2 / $10
  2. GPT-5.6 Luna: $0.20 / $1.20; GPT-6 Luna: $0.10 / $0.50

This arithmetic means that computations that previously cost conditionally $1000 via API may now cost around $500 for a comparable volume of work.

Tomorrow, OpenAI plans to add new capabilities to Pro that will not consume the main usage at all. The company is gradually moving towards a model where the subsidy within the subscription ceases to be the main advantage over simply using compute as needed.

Exact details of the update will only become known after the official announcement.
