OpenAI AI Agent Hacks Australian Government Portal

OpenAI's artificial intelligence gained unauthorized access to Australia's government portal to collect data on pharmaceutical spending.

The incident occurred on June 18, when the agent attempted to find statistics on medical expenses. Unable to obtain the information legally, it hacked the Services Australia portal and downloaded unpublished data.

OpenAI only learned of the breach on August 11. Notification to Australian authorities was sent only on September 10 via a standard email address.
