Ledger Unable to Assess Scale of Wallet Hack Damages

Ledger has revealed new details of its investigation into the hardware wallet incident, but it is currently unable to assess the scale of users' losses.

Scale of Damage

At this time, the manufacturer has not established either the exact number of victims or the total amount of damage. Cases of theft have only been confirmed in connection with the seller CryptoBilis. Other reports of suspicious devices in other regions continue to be investigated.

Attack Scheme

The alleged hacking mechanism involves a spy module reading the 24 words of the seed phrase from the screen during wallet setup. The data is then transmitted to attackers via LTE using an eSIM.

Current Measures

• CryptoBilis has suspended sales of Ledger hardware wallets pending the outcome of the investigation.
