Ledger Hack: $86 Million Theft and Spyware Traps

Ledger has been hit by a massive theft of approximately $86 million. The investigation revealed complex schemes involving device substitution and malware implantation.

Key Incident Details

Mark Karples, former head of Mt.Gox, discovered spyware in his hardware wallet purchased in Malaysia. The malicious component was hidden under the screen gasket and remained undetectable even after opening the device.

Changpeng Zhao suggested that the cause might be device modification or substitution by one of the sellers. He called on the crypto industry to unite efforts to track and recover the stolen funds.

Technological Aspect of the Problem

SlowMist security service (MistTrack) froze a significant amount of USDT on addresses linked to the stolen funds. Total damages approach $90 million.

CryptoBilis, mentioned in the investigation as a seller of Trezor wallets, has not yet made official statements regarding the Ledger incident.
