Lead Found in Popular Cat Foods

In a large-scale study, experts found lead in products from 62 cat food brands, including popular ones like Royal Canin, Sheba, and Purina. Some samples also contained cadmium, arsenic, and mercury.

Heavy metals negatively affect the gastrointestinal tract and nervous system of cats, as well as increasing the risk of anemia. Such contamination poses a serious threat to pets' health with regular consumption of contaminated food.

Mars, whose products were on the list, stated that its produced foods fully comply with quality standards in Russia and Belarus. The company emphasized that all raw materials undergo strict microbiological risk control, and supervision is carried out by Rosselkhoznadzor during production stages.
