HatchZip: Archiver with File Deletion Upon Extraction

The developer has released the open-source archiver HatchZip, which can delete the source file immediately after extraction. This solution addresses the issue of insufficient disk space when working with large volumes of data.

Disk Space Savings

Extracting an 180 GB archive into 200 GB files typically requires about 380 GB of free space. HatchZip extracts data from the end of the archive and immediately deletes processed fragments. The freed space is immediately used to write new files, while the original archive gradually disappears.

Ditching Unnecessary Archives

The tool eliminates the accumulation of useless archive files. The project is available as open-source software, ensuring code transparency and unrestricted usage. The utility can be downloaded from the developer's official website.

Technical Details

The archiver is positioned as an alternative to WinRAR, focusing on efficient memory management. Its operation relies on sequentially deleting source data as it is processed. This makes the extraction process safer for systems with limited resources.
