Hackers use AI agent Artex to attack banks
The Chinese AI agent Artex has become a tool for large-scale cyberattacks on financial institutions in South Korea. As a result, attackers managed to steal personal data of about 68,000 people, including confidential information about income and credit limits.
The feature of the technology is the ability of the agent to independently identify vulnerabilities in security systems and build complex attack chains with minimal human involvement.
Artex is not a separate model, but a platform compatible with various large language models such as GPT, Claude, and DeepSeek. The exact type of model used in the hack has not yet been determined.
The Wall Street Journal notes this incident as one of the first cases of using artificial intelligence for targeted attacks on the financial sector. The identities of the organizers of the hacking activities remain unknown.
