Hackers Hacked Refrigeration Equipment in France
Last night, hackers attacked hundreds of French supermarkets. It was not the cash registers or customer databases that were targeted, but the cooling systems.
Around 150 Intermarché stores were affected. This was confirmed by Groupement Mousquetaires, which owns the chain.
The attackers gained access to the refrigeration equipment and switched it to defrost mode.
As a result, fridges and freezers heated up to 50 °C for about six hours.
Meat, frozen goods, and vegetables had to be thrown away.
No ransomware, no extortion demands, no data leaks: someone simply turned the temperature dial via the network.
