Denmark's government registry hacked via weak password
A hacker gained access to Denmark's national registry using the default password "123456". The attacker claims that at least three accounts of a state-owned company used this weak combination.
This gave him access to the data of 8.8 million people. The breach included citizens' names, addresses, and identification numbers.
Delay in detecting the incident
Authorities discovered the massive data breach only 12 days after the hack. An employee of an IT services provider happened to learn about the incident by chance.
