Russians risk losing high-quality internet due to network wear
Russian users may face a decline in internet access quality due to the physical wear and tear of telecommunications infrastructure. According to the Ministry of Digital Development, more than half of all communication lines in the country require immediate replacement.
The service life of an optical fiber cable is 25 years. After this period, the fiber becomes cloudy, reducing its ability to transmit light signals, which leads to a drop in data transmission speed and range.
Large-scale modernization requires huge investments
Replacing outdated trunk lines will require approximately 400 billion rubles. Until large-scale work is completed, operators use spare fibers within some networks to maintain stable connections.
